The Rockband System
This system was originally designed because of frustration both at the cost of lead and the ease with which I seemed to lose it, especially backleads. Basically it consists of three items each sold separately.
First is the band itself which is one of the toughest bands available (well over 30lb b.s)and is both salt water and uv light resistant, although the band will securely hold a stone in excess of 3oz on casts of over 100 yards Its recommended use would be for short to medium range as a main weight. Also on shorter casts and with lighter coloured stones the bands can be used in thinner strips as shown elsewhere. 12 per pack
The Backlead clip, this clip has been designed to fit the bands that securely hold a stone/pebble of your choice and convert it for use as a backlead, the clip itself has an easy one handed attachment to the line along with a polished inner section to reduce line friction. it also has flattened ‘feet’ that help keep it in place on the stone, Should the stone become snagged the clip will slip the band with some pressure or work its way off the line via the gate. Although the use of a stone/pebble as a ‘backlead’ is a lot cheaper than standard lead or its usual substitutes, it’s also more environmentally friendly, and on top of that for example, by choosing different shaped stones or positioning the clip differently you can have the ‘backlead’ stood upright off the bottom for smoother line flow or lay flat. And it’s obviously ideal for fishing big snaggy waters abroad. 5 per pack
The leger clip. This small metal clip combined with a band enables any angler to use a small stone/pebble as a main leger weight, this has several advantages, including presenting a more natural looking weight for wary fish, fishing safely anywhere there’s a lead ban and of course reducing the cost of losing bombs especially in snaggy water. Not only that but certain shapes of stone will rest over and on top of weed, they also rise quicker on the retrieve up and over snags and being porous they absorb flavours and liquid additives. 5 per pack Just attach a swivel or ring and lock it in place with the tubing followed by the band and then add the stone.
